Cheers to the Weekend
Summer has arrived! And since Summer vacations are something of the long and distant past for most of us, I thought it'd be nice to at least celebrate the breaks we do have, the weekends!
A Horse's Neck or The Older, Sophisticated Whiskey & Ginger (makes two)4 oz. whiskey, rye or bourbon of your choice 6 oz. ginger beer approx. 8-10 dashes Angostura bitters 4 twists of lemon
In a shaker, pour whiskey and ginger beer over several ice cubes. Toss in half of your lemon twists and add the dashes of bitters. Stir, do not shake, until combined. Strain into two glasses and garnish with one more ice cube and another twist of lemon.
Spicy yet refreshing, this would be perfect for solitary porch sipping or served in a pitcher at your next Summer fete. This cocktail was apparently first served around the time of the Civil War, thank you Catoctin Creek Distillery for introducing me to it. It's high time it made a comeback. Bourbon and ginger just isn't going to cut it this Summer.
This weekend will be a busy one. Today is my birthday though, so of course I'll be making time for a few birthday cocktails. Good thing my favorite bar has all the fixings for my new summer drink of choice.
