Dirty Little Chai

Oh hey there September. I feel like you're telling me it's time to buckle back down a bit. Does anyone else feel that way? I am excited about Fall, but my body is still kind of in Summer mode. A morning green tea just isn't quite cutting it. So out of necessity (or so I like to think) I've been turning to the hard stuff and a month or so ago, I discovered the Honeybee Chai at Bean Hollow in historic Ellicott City, MD. It's not good that this place is within walking distance from my office. Mostly because my office is 45 minutes away from home.

What's so special about this beverage? It's essentially a dirty chai, meaning masala chai (tea) with espresso. I've tried my share of these in my coffee shop travels, but none compare to this one. It's got the added benefits of a little vanilla and honey.

I've been making my own at-home version of this drink with satisfying and energizing results. As we settle into this season of productivity, I must recommend that you whip up one of these for yourself. Your mornings will be better for it. And when it finally starts to get colder, just ditch the ice.

Dirty Little Chai

Ingredients
  • 1 cup brewed chai tea
  • 1 shot brewed espresso
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • splash of vanilla syrup (you can totally make your own if you wanted)
  • milk of your choice (I prefer unsweetend vanilla almond milk)
  • ice (optional)
Instructions
  1. Brew the tea & espresso. When the tea is ready, add the honey and stir to combine. (You want to do this while the tea is hot so the honey will dissolve.) Add the espresso, milk, and syrup and stir. If you want it cold, add in some ice.
